West Lothian Make The Final

West Lothian SFA 1 Glasgow SFA 0.

West Lothian SFA have won through to the final of the SSFA National Trophy at under 15 level and will play Forth Valley SFA in the final of this prestigious competition.

Glasgow Schools FA, who were the holders, will be disappointed with their narrow 1-0 defeat at the Tony Macaroni Stadium, Livingston on Tuesday 19 March.

In what was a very tight semi final match there was little between two well matched teams but West Lothian did just enough to get over the line with a winning goal with just over five minutes to play.

Both teams started well and both made half chances in the first ten minutes.

West Lothian lost Ali N’Jie ( West Calder HS) to a slight injury after only 15 minutes.

The West Lothian central mid field of Murray Thomson ( Linlithgow Acad) and Josh McCulloch ( Bathgate Acad) were combining well but couldn’t penetrate a solid Glasgow defence while home keeper Josh Blair ( James Young HS) was largely untroubled and half time arrived with a 0-0 score line.

As the second half began, Glasgow seemed in control early on but West Lothian came more into the game.

Reece Fleming ( Bearsden Acad) missed with a header and his team mate goalkeeper Lucas Ross ( St Peter the Apostle) made a great save to keep the scores level.

N’Jie returned to the game as a penalty shoot out loomed.

With just over five minutes to go the crucial goal arrived for West Lothian.

A low driven free kick from the edge of the box reached the front post area and McKenzie Kirk ( Bathgate Acad) turned the ball home with a controlled shot from 12 yards.

Glasgow tried to the final whistle but West Lothian didn’t look like losing control to progress to the final.

The final, which will take place after Easter, will see a re match of an earlier group section game between West Lothian and Forth Valley but neither side will hold any stock in the result from this game played in October.

Match details for the final will be announced as soon as possible.
