Under 15 Girls included in Scottish Year of Stories

As part of the Museum Galleries Scotland and Lottery funded exhibition celebrating the 150th anniversary of the 1st men's International match and the 50th anniversary of the 1st women's International match, the Scottish School's FA have been included in part of the Milestones of Scottish Football exhibition called ‘We Followed After Them’.

To celebrate this there has been a special ‘Striking her stories‘ trail made in the museum consisting of 8 formal displays following the game from the 1600s to modern day.

Our Under 15 Girls played a match against England, in May 2022, which marked 50 years since the match ban was lifted. The game was played at the same venue as the original game in 1972, Ravenscraig, Greenock.

A number of items including programmes, pennants, photographs and articles written by the girls about what the game meant to them has been included in the exhibition.

Five of the squad took part in filming to mark this. They had a stadium tour, kick about in the warm up area and then a private tour of the trail delivered by Dr Fiona Skillen from Glasgow Caledonian University, who is a woman’s football historian.

The updated display area which will also feature a large number of former SSFA players in a photo wall of women’s football in the last few years from grassroots to cup finals and World Cup qualifiers opens officially from the 19th November.
