Season 2001-2002

With no schools’ football being played at present, and for the forseeable future, here’s a look back at schools’ football in season 2001-2002.

Please note age grouping were moved forward a year in the early 2000s therefore our Under 12 Shield became the Under 13 Shield etc.

Shield and cup competitions provided the opportunity for well over 800 teams to experience the enjoyment of competing to try and reach national finals.

We enjoyed the cooperation of various clubs to stage the finals at Hampden Park, Fir Park, Johnstone Burgh, Warout Stadium, Glenrothes Fife Institute, Almondvale Stadium, Linlithgow Rose, Inverurie Locos, Whitehill Welfare and Tayport Juniors.

St. Augustine’s High did the double in the Senior Shields, winning both the Boys and the Girls finals.

Johnstone High made it three wins in three years, winning the Under 16 Shield after lifting the Under 15 and Under 14 Shields in the preceding years.

Holy Cross High beat Renfrew High, on penalties, in the Under 15 final. St Andrew’s Secondary beat the Nicolson Institute 3-1 in the Girls’ Under 15 final at Almondvale.

Aberdeen Grammar beat St Ambrose High 4-2 in the Under 14 final and St Aidan’s High beat Kincorth Academy in the Under 13 Shield final.
