Captain Lily is in her third year representing Scottish Schools having played in 2022 and 2023. Vice-Captain Orla in her second year representing Scottish Schools having played in 2023.
Lily said: ” It’s a really proud moment for me and my family. Hopefully we can go on and retain the Bob Doc.
“I found out last night at the team meeting. The coaches announced I was to be captain and all my team-mates clapped. A really special moment, one I will remember all my life. I wasn’t expecting it as I was concentrating on getting selected.”
Orla commented: “It’s a huge honour to be selected as vice-captain and hopefully we can go on and win the Bob Doc for a second year. I found out I was to be vice-captain about half and hour ago during a break in this morning’s training, so I’m really excited. “
Lily is captain of Rangers Under 16s and hopes to bring her experience to help the girls do their best in Athlone in March.
Commenting on the trial process Orla said: “Even though I was in the squad last year, I felt more pressure to perform this year. In addition I was captain of the South-East squad so I had a responsibility to lead players I hadn’t spoken to before as well as to play to the best of my abilities.”
Lily remarked: “I was focussing on playing my best in every single game and impressing the coaches. Obviously it helps having been selected in previous years, as they know your style of play. But, like Orla, I felt the pressure to get selected this year.”
