Forth Valley U15s make a Winning Start

Last season’s beaten U15 National Cup finalists, Forth Valley SFA, has made a winning start to this season’s campaign with what was eventually a comfortable 6-0 victory over Lanarkshire SFA. The scoreline however does not reflect the close nature of the game especially in the first period when either team could have gone ahead.

On a bright afternoon and under the spectacular Wallace Monument each team made chances to take the lead in the opening twenty minutes. It was the home team who did make the breakthrough when, from a through ball from Liam Fagan (St.Mungo’s HS), forward Steven Buchanan (McLaren
HS) broke through to score. There were saves from both keepers, Taylor Evan (Larbert HS) and Matthew Connolly (Braidhurst HS), but it was a three-minute spell just before halftime that
determined how the game would finish.

Robbie Weir (Denny HS) ghosted along the bye-line and cut back to Mitchell Starrs (Dunblane HS) who controlled and netted to put the home side 2-0 up. A minute later the same player fired a
spectacular, unstoppable thirty-yard effort into the top corner to put Forth Valley three up.

In the second half Lanarkshire never gave up but the home team were in command. They added goals from Keigan McCaffrey (Denny HS), Jamie Auld (Lornshill Academy) and Liam Fagan to run out convincing winners
.
