It was a well contested SSFA Under 15 National Trophy quarter final when Forth Valley SFA met Fife Schools FA at Indodrill Stadium, Alloa on Thursday 23rd January.

The 3-0 score line in favour of the home team certainly does not indicate that this was a very close contest until the final ten minutes.

Forth Valley started well and deservedly took the lead after 9 minutes.

Lewis O’Donnell ( Dunblane HS) headed down for Greg Harrower ( Balfron HS). His pass found Timan Scott in space and the Graeme HS forward crashed home his shot from only eight yards out.

The home team were on top and should have added to their tally but they failed to take the chances created and indeed were fortunate to survive a mis placed pass back that the Fife forward couldn’t quite convert.

Half time: Forth Valley 1 Fife 0

The second half started with FVSFA again on top but gradually Fife got into the game.

Fife claimed a penalty kick but the referee considered the Fife forward had tripped up himself and he waved away the claims. No VAR to intervene.

Fife also missed a great chance to equalise when a parried shot fell to the feet of a forward. He wasn’t quite able to get his balance and his rebound effort went over.

With ten minutes to go Forth Valley were gifted a goal when a mis placed Fife pass across the box gave forward Gregg Harrower ( Balfron HS) a chance to walk around the keeper to score.

The hard working Harrower scored his second and Forth Valley’s third when a shot from Lewis O’Donnell came back off the bar and Harrower got first to the rebound.

With ten minutes to go this game could have gone either way but it was Forth Valley who got the breaks and so reached the semi final once again.

Last season’s beaten finalists will meet either Ayrshire or Aberdeen in the semi final and will host the game.

Both teams played well at Indodrill and discipline was excellent making it an easy game for referee Fraser McKay and his team of John Hyslop and Gordon Wilson.
