Forth Valley on course for quarters

Forth Valley 4 West Lothian 0
SSFA National Trophy
Indrodrill Stadium – 23 October 2019

With a comfortable 4 – 0 home win against West Lothian SFA at Indodrill Stadium, Alloa, Forth Valley now sit with a full six points and a plus ten goal difference after two group 2 games in the SSFA National Senior Trophy.

McLaren High School’s Gavin Campbell notched a hat trick at the home of Alloa Athletic FC to secure the win as West Lothian struggled to gain any control in this cup tie.

Forth Valley started brightly and missed two good early opportunities before Campbell scored his first goal.

Blair Sneddon ( Graeme HS) was on good form and he hit in a well -placed cross which found Campbell on the penalty spot. The striker controlled the ball on his chest, swivelled and struck his shot into the corner to put Forth Valley ahead.

The home team dominated possession but West Lothian stuck to their task and it took a good save from Evan Taylor ( Larbert HS) to maintain Forth Valley’s lead. Half time arrived with only one goal separating the two teams.

Prompted by some words of encouragement at half time, Forth Valley began the second half at a good pace and after only 5 minutes had extended their lead quickly to 3 – 0.

A splendid move down the right wing saw the energetic Gavin Hamilton (Wallace HS) deliver a dangerous cross in to the box. Gavin Campbell got first to the ball and netted a great team goal.

Minutes later the unfortunate West Lothian keeper spilled a cross at the feet of the home striker who netted his hat trick goal from only one yard out.

The best goal of the game came only a few minutes later when Jay Tapping (Falkirk HS) hit a superb long range effort to put Forth Valley four nil ahead.

Tapping’s Falkirk HS team mates Grant Wotherspoon and Stewart Thomson were in good control of defence and Forth Valley were able to give all their substitutes some game time.

Mid fielder Jack Sharples ( Braes HS) was solid through – out and despite their best efforts the West Lothian team just could not get into the game.

Referee Euan Donaldson and his assistants were untroubled in controlling this game and they brought the game to an end with the scoreline at 4 0 to the home side.

West Lothian now meet the Independent Schools’ FA in their final group game in November.

Next week Lanarkshire SFA meet the Independent Schools’ in a vital game which takes place at Hamilton Palace on Tuesday 29th October, 2.00pm kick off.
