Fife Schools FA 5 Forth Valley FA 2
Senior National Trophy semi-final
Starks Park, Kirkcaldy
Wed 11 March 2020
Fife Schools FA Senior side has achieved a significant double with their win over Forth Valley SFA on Wednesday 11th March at Starks Park, Kirkcaldy.
The current holders of the SSFA Senior National Trophy have reached the final for the second season in a row and will face Glasgow Schools FA. Successive wins will be the aim of the Fife team who had a well deserved win over Forth Valley.
After a cagey opening fifteen minutes, Fife went ahead when centre half Thomas Grey ( Kinross HS) strode forward unchallenged and hit a 25 yarder past Forth Valley keeper, Evan Taylor ( Larbert HS).
The visitors were level only six minutes later. Jay Tapping (Falkirk HS) shot from far out and team mate Gavin Campbell (McLaren HS) deflected the ball past keeper Jamie Cowan ( Bell Baxter HS).
After 25 minutes Forth Valley took a fortunate lead when Sean McNamara ( Woodmill HS) headed in to his own goal.
Three minutes later the cup tie was all square when Aaron Dair ( Beath HS) caught keeper Taylor in possession in his box and he gleefully hammered the ball home.
Worse was to follow for Forth Valley when, a minute later, a loose pass was intercepted and Conor Reid ( Woodmill HS) scored from close in to turn the tie on its head.
In the 38th minute Thomas Grey repeated his goal earlier in the game with yet another super strike from distance.
Fife led 4-2 at half time and it was no surprise therefore that Forth Valley would try to come back strongly.
Steven Buchanan ( McLaren HS) had a number of attempts but Fife gradually took the sting from Forth Valley’s comeback efforts.
Both sides used all their outfield subs in a well contested second half.
The final goal of the game, making the score 5-2, came from Jake Grady ( Madras College) with two minutes to play as Fife secured a well deserved win.
Forth Valley u 18 gave a much improved second half performance but couldn’t match their u15 side who are finalists in the SSFA National Trophy Final at their age group.
Fife Schools have a chance of a fantastic two trophy wins in a row but Glasgow SFA will provide strong opposition to their dreams in a final likely to take place shortly after the Easter Holiday period.
