Dundee Retain Senior Girls National Trophy

Dundee Schools’ FA have successfully retained the SSFA Senior Girls’ National Trophy - the inter association competition.

In an excellent final, played at sunny Ochilview Park, Stenhousemuir, Dundee Schools’ FA defeated an Ayrshire Schools’ FA side which tried hard but couldn’t match the all round strength of a very good Dundee team.

After an even start Dundee scored their first goal when Katy West headed home after ten minutes.

Ayrshire were playing some good football but could never really extend the well organised Dundee defence.

]Maisie Stewart, for the cup holders, was controlling the play with energetic and skilful play but Dundee were a bit wasteful with the chances they were making.

Half time 1 – 0.

Ayrshire started the second half brightly but it was Dundee who scored the game’s second goal.

Playing out from the back cost Ayrshire dearly when Karla Brady intercepted and from 20 yards out hit a great shot home to stretch the Dundee lead.

Dundee turned the screw but found Ayrshire keeper Zoe Duff in great form, saving most that came her way.

Dundee were able to ring the changes, making numerous substitutions – especially when Katy West netted her second and Dundee’s third goal.

The game was well handled by referee Ian
MacKay and his assistants, Paul Taylor and Crawford MacKay.

Ayrshire never stopped trying but Dundee had a firm grip on the game when the final whistle was blown.

Congratulations to the Dundee side many of whom secured their second winners medal in a National Final.
