Schoolboy International selection trials underway.
Since mid – September, 21 SSFA National Cup games have taken place and each one has had in attendance members of the SSFA Selection and Coaching committee who have been assessing the players on show with a view to selecting the squad who will represent the SSFA in this season’s Centenary Shield.
Three Intermediate trials are arranged, the first of which took place on Friday 1st December at the Regional Football Centre, Toryglen, Glasgow. The second trial takes place on Wednesday 6th December and the third trial, both at the same Toryglen venue, on Friday 8th December.
28 hopefuls took part last Friday and the selectors’ committee, under the chairmanship of International Team Secretary Les Donaldson MBE, identified from this game the players, and taking into account previous performances in the Scottish Cup ties, who may be invited to return for the Final Trial which takes place on Tuesday 12th December.
The standard in last Friday’s game was very encouraging and it is hoped that the same will be apparent in the next two trials this week.
The final selection will be announced on Wednesday 13th December and the squad will have its first get together for preparation on 21st and 22nd December.
It is an exciting time for the candidates involved and the SSFA wishes them all the best in trying to show their potential in the quest for a much cherished ‘schoolboy cap’.
